Practice the rudiments. See every stroke.
Rudiment Coach hears every stroke you play — on a MIDI pad or through the microphone — and marks it right on the notation: early or late, louder or softer, the right hand or the wrong one. All 40 PAS rudiments, a metronome built for practice, and a journal that keeps you honest.
Coming soon to the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
The practice room, with a coach in it.
Pick a rudiment, set the tempo, and play. Every pass is scored, the marks stay on the notes so you can see what happened, and your fastest clean pass is kept with each pattern.
All 40 PAS rudiments
Rolls, diddles, flams and drags, written out with sticking and accents. Read them as notation, or switch to a grid with R and L lanes and the counts above.
Your pad or the microphone
Play on a zoned pad like the BopPad, where each zone is a hand and your sticking is graded, on a single MIDI pad, or on any practice pad through the microphone.
Every stroke graded
Early strokes land left of the note, late ones right; louder sits above, softer below. Green is on time, amber early or late, and a red ring is the wrong hand. A score of 90 or more is a clean pass.
A metronome built for practice
Subdivisions, straight or in triplets, a full click mix, tap tempo, a count-in, and a practice clock that counts up or down to a goal, with bars and beats.
Speed up when you’re ready
Turn it on and the tempo goes up by a step you choose after each pass that scores 85 or more with nothing missed. Roll build-ups open up slowly, close into the roll, and settle back.
Polyrhythms and stickings
Sixteen polyrhythms between the hands, from 3 against 2 to 5 against 7, each both ways round. Every four- and three-note sticking, mirrored and accented, as building blocks.
Your own patterns
Build a pattern on the grid with the notation updating as you go, record one from the pad and have it written out, or pull a snare part out of a MIDI file.
Kits and sounds
Hear each pattern played back on a synth snare, snares on or off, or bring in your own sounds and set the levels.
Everything around the pad.

Leaderboards
Fastest clean pass
Each of the 40 PAS rudiments has its own board, ranked by tempo in bpm.
Clean, whole, both hands
A clean pass (a score of 90 or more) of the whole rudiment, played on a pad with both hands set up so sticking is graded. Microphone passes aren’t ranked, because the mic can’t tell hands apart.
